What we do

Humanities Lab promotes and researches innovation and entrepreneurship in the humanities, viewing the humanities as one of the foundations of creativity and autonomy. With this objective and focus in mind, it carries out teaching, research, outreach, and community engagement activities, primarily in the form of lectures, lecture series, seminars, conferences, colloquia, projects, exhibitions, consulting services, and training programs.

Its purpose is to foster a two-way relationship with individuals, educational institutions, foundations, companies, the media, and all types of public, state, and private institutions where the humanities can make an impact, influence, or bring about change. It also promotes and encourages innovative and entrepreneurial work by humanities scholars outside the Lab and offers support for the development of prototypes and projects in line with its mission and vision. To carry out these activities, the Laboratory has offices, collaborative workspaces, meeting rooms, training and education spaces, a recording studio, and a virtual reality room.

The Lab's main areas of research and action are as follows:

Heritage

The cultural heritage of the past can be understood as a living entity that influences our lives and helps us understand who we are. The Lab offers a humanistic and innovative space, fostering a multisensory and technological connection with cultural heritage through an interdisciplinary and creative approach, thereby enabling a unique and enriching connection with our shared history and culture.

Communication

Media can collaborate with humanities scholars to create high-quality content that promotes culture and adds depth to current events. Universities encourage their faculty to engage with the media, highlighting the impact of the humanities on social media. The Lab seeks to bring these contributions together and strengthen the bond between academia, the media, and society.

Education

Humanities are offered in both secondary and university education as elective courses and as part of comprehensive programs. The Laboratory’s mission is to innovate in the teaching of these disciplines through methodologies and educational resources that promote meaningful learning. In this way, it seeks to develop an educational approach that enriches students’ experiences and knowledge as they pursue their education.

Technology

Technology and digital media are advancing rapidly, and the humanities have much to contribute. Philosophers, literary scholars, and historians can use technology to enhance their research and modernize their teaching. Augmented reality, online education, and Digital Humanities are new areas where humanities scholars can enrich their disciplines, and the Laboratory is driving this integration.

Interdisciplinary

As they study human beings, Humanities lead the way in interdisciplinary work, forging links between fields of knowledge and fostering research. This collaboration is key to addressing cultural and social complexity, and the Lab provides a space where different fields can converge. Here, the Humanities act as a catalyst for innovative projects, connecting disciplines to generate applied knowledge.
