Gaudí Centenary
On June 10, 2026, the 100th anniversary of the death of Antoni Gaudí, one of the greatest geniuses of world architecture, will be commemorated. The USS Humanities Lab and the USS Faculty of Architecture, Art, and Design have set out to honor this centenary through an academic and cultural program that highlights his spiritual, architectural, and artistic legacy. This program seeks to reveal the complexities of his life, as well as the impact and significance of his prolific work, fostering a space for collaborative and interdisciplinary dialogue around a central figure in the history of 20th-century art and architecture.
This commemorative project has the support and sponsorship of the Embassy of Spain in Chile, the Gaudí de Triana Foundation of Chile, and the Antonio Gaudí Foundation of Spain. The program includes six main activities. The first consists of an online conference open to the general public about Gaudí's most famous work, the Sagrada Familia, which will be taught by Professor Cristián León on Wednesday, March 25. Following that, we will hold the Colloquium “Gaudí. 100 Years After His Death”, an interdisciplinary space to honor his life and work, and to reflect on his spiritual, technical, and artistic legacy. The colloquium will take place in person at the Ciudad Universitaria campus of Universidad San Sebastián (Huechuraba, Santiago, Chile), on Monday, May 18.
Professor León will give a second lecture on June 10: "Gaudí, the Architect of the Impossible". In July, we will be visited by the Spanish specialist José Manuel Almuzara, who will present his book Gaudí, the Architect of the Soul (2026). In August, a series of talks open to the general public will be held at the El Tranque Cultural Center (Lo Barnechea), and finally, the Humanities Laboratory and the USS Faculty of Architecture will offer the public the immersive exhibition “Gaudí Between Heaven and Earth”, an exciting tribute to the life and work of the famous Catalan architect.
